Ticket types

Created on 11 Mar 2025

Ticket types allow you to set your pricing for your event. Each ticket type is assigned to a Pricing Group that then needs to be assigned to a section.

Standard tickets

A standard ticket type allows you to sell one or ticket types at the same time. You would use the standard ticket type when you have a different price for concessions or have multiple workshops over several sessions.

Tiered pricing

Tiered pricing allows you to offer various ticket types and price points to attract more customers. Customers are also encouraged to purchase their tickets early rather than later by tiered pricing.

Make sure you choose the tiered type when creating your ticket type and that they are all in the same pricing group by grouping them together to set up tiered pricing.

Free tickets

You can create a free ticket type that allows you to host free events. When your customers' checkout, they won't need to enter payment information unless you're combing a free ticket type with a paid ticket type.

Purchasers of free tickets will be issued with a receipt and a ticket by email, so you can use Undiscovered's check in facilities on the day of your event.

Visibility

You can change the status of your ticket types for different purposes.

  • Active is the default, meaning that if the section or pricing group is visible, your ticket type will always be visible.
  • When visibility is set to sold out, its status will be shown as sold out on the event page and tickets will not be available for purchase.
  • Hidden ticket types will not be visible on the event page. However, you can create access codes to allow access to the ticket type. This is useful for ticket types that are only available to certain people, such as VIP tickets.
  • When visibility is set to disabled, it will not be visible on the event page, tickets will not be available for purchase and will not count towards the total number of tickets available. Ticket types with sales cannot be disabled. In this instance, modify the visibility setting to "hidden." or "Sold out"

How capacity works

Capacity limits can be configured at two levels in your event:

  1. Section-level capacity - Sets the overall limit for an entire section
  2. Ticket type capacity - Sets individual limits for specific ticket types within that section

Important: When both are set, the section capacity takes precedence and will override any individual ticket type limits. This means if your section has a capacity of 100, but individual ticket types add up to 150, the section will still be limited to 100 total tickets.

This hierarchical approach gives you flexible control - you can set broad limits at the section level while still maintaining organisation through ticket type allocations, knowing that your section capacity acts as the final constraint.

If you have multiple sessions, then the capacity is determined on a session by session basis.

If you need to control the number of sales and pricing scheme for each ticket type individually, then create a new section and assign a pricing group to it. Then assign the ticket type to the pricing group you've selected for the section.
