Transferring a ticket vs listing it for resale

If you can't use your ticket, there are two ways to pass it on:

  • List it for resale (recommended) – sell your ticket to a friend or a specific person by sending them a private link, or offer it to anyone on the event's resale marketplace. The buyer pays securely on the platform, gets a new ticket in their name, and you get your money back automatically.
  • Transfer it – give the ticket directly to a specific person. No payment is handled, so any money changes hands privately between you.

Both options let you pass a ticket to someone you know. For most people resale is the safer and easier choice, because the payment is taken care of for you.

Why choose resale

  • Sell to a friend or someone you've found. Choose Private sale and you get a link to share with them. Your ticket isn't shown on the public marketplace.
  • Or reach a wider audience. If you don't have a buyer, list your ticket publicly on the event's marketplace for people looking for tickets.
  • No chasing payment. The buyer pays when they buy the ticket, and the sale price is refunded to your original payment method. You don't have to swap bank details or trust that someone will pay you later.
  • Keep your ticket until it sells. Your ticket stays valid while it's listed. If your plans change or it doesn't sell, remove the listing and use the ticket yourself.
  • Safe for the buyer too. The buyer gets a new ticket in their name, and the old ticket is cancelled, so nobody else can use it.

Selling your ticket to a specific person

  1. Log in and go to My resales.
  2. Under Sell this ticket?, select the ticket you want to sell.
  3. If the option is available, click Set price and choose your price. You can't charge more than the original ticket price.
  4. Select Private sale.
  5. Click Confirm.
  6. Copy the Direct link and send it to your buyer. They open it, pay for the ticket and receive it in their name.

Private sale links are only visible to people you share them with. Some events only allow private sales.

Selling your ticket on the marketplace

Follow the same steps but leave Private sale unticked. Your ticket is listed on the event's resale marketplace, where anyone looking for tickets can buy it. You'll get an email confirming your listing.

While your ticket is listed

  • Your ticket still works. If it doesn't sell, you can still use it to get into the event.
  • You can change or remove the listing at any time from My resales. Once a buyer starts paying, you can't change the listing until the sale is finished.
  • You can't transfer or refund it while it's listed. To do either, remove the listing first.
  • If it doesn't sell, it stays listed until you remove it.

When your ticket sells

  • We email you to let you know it sold.
  • The buyer is sent a new ticket in their name, and your original ticket is cancelled.
  • The sale price is refunded to the payment method used for the original order. Booking fees aren't included. Once it's processed, the refund may take 1–5 business days to show in your account.

Because the money goes back to the original payment method, don't list a ticket for resale if the card used to buy it has expired or been cancelled. In that case, use a transfer.

Which tickets can be resold?

A ticket can be listed for resale if:

  • The event organiser has turned on resale for the event
  • The ticket type allows resale
  • The ticket was paid for (free, guest, donation, product and membership tickets can't be resold)
  • The ticket hasn't been checked in, transferred or refunded
  • The event hasn't finished and hasn't been cancelled or postponed

When a transfer makes more sense

A transfer is a good fit when:

  • You're giving the ticket away for free
  • Your ticket can't be resold (for example, it was a free ticket or the event doesn't offer resale)
  • The card used for the original purchase has expired or been cancelled

We don't handle any money for transfers. If someone is paying you, get paid before you transfer the ticket. Once they accept it, the ticket is theirs. If you'd rather not deal with the money, use a private sale instead.

Common questions

Can I resell my ticket to a friend?

Yes. Choose Private sale in My resales and send your friend the link. Only people with the link can see and buy your ticket.

I've found my own buyer. Should I transfer or resell?

Use a private sale. Your buyer pays on the platform, you get your money back automatically, and you don't need to trust anyone to pay you later. Only use a transfer if you're giving the ticket away or you've already been paid.

Can I transfer a ticket that's listed for resale?

Not while it's listed. Remove the listing in My resales first, then transfer it.

Do I pay any fees to list my ticket?

No fees are charged if you cancel a listing. When your ticket sells, booking fees from your original order aren't refunded.

Someone else bought my ticket for me. Can I resell it?

The sale price is refunded to the payment method used for the original order. If someone else bought your ticket, they'll usually need to log in and list it from their account.
