SHE MOVES ME - MOVEMENT & CONNECTION - By Women. For Women.
Celebrating International Women’s Day
Temple on the Park Newtown
Sat 7 March 6-9pm (Please arrive 10-15 mins early for signing in)
Across cultures and time, people have used movement and dance to express emotion, mark important moments, and connect with one another. Moving the body has always been a way to process experience — physically, emotionally, and socially.
She Moves Me is an evening of movement and connection, hosted by women, for women. It offers a space to explore freeform dance, tune into physical sensation, and move with others in a way that feels personal, spacious, and honest. The session is guided by experienced Ecstatic Dance DJ and movement teacher, with a focus on choice, comfort, and respect for individual boundaries.
The event includes:
- A cacao welcoming, offering a quiet moment to arrive, pause, and settle into the space together.
- Somatic movement and Ecstatic Dance journeys, supporting self-directed movement and body awareness.
- An Authentic Movement–based practice, exploring witnessing and being witnessed to support attention, empathy, and connection.
- Singing circle, using simple sound and voice to encourage play, listening, and shared rhythm.
This is an inclusive, non-performative environment open to all bodies and levels of movement experience. You’re welcome to move gently or energetically, to take breaks, or to simply observe.
No prior dance experience is needed — just a willingness to move in your own way.

Event guidelines:
- No phones use, even on silent – if you need to check your phone, take devices outside the hall and check them there.
- No talking – words take us straight back into our heads!
- Arrive on time – the warm-up, including the initial ‘guided’ somatic movement is an important part of the process.
- Stay until the end both for yourself, and for the group – if you leave early you will disrupt the collective energy and your own process will be incomplete.

FAQ:
Is this event for women's only?
Yes. This event is created by women, for women. It is designed to create safe and supportive spaces that foster confidence, community, and skill development. It allows participants to connect without fear of judgment, share experiences, and receive tailored mentorship to overcome gender-specific challenges.
What is Ecstatic Dance and somatic movement?
Ecstatic Dance is a form of freeform movement guided by music in a shared, respectful space.
There are no steps to learn and no expectations around how to move. You’re invited to follow your own rhythm — moving, resting, or observing as you choose. The focus is on listening to your body and engaging at your own pace. No dance experience is needed.
A somatic movement is a movement that’s practiced consciously with the intention of focusing on the internal experience of the movement rather than the external appearance or the end result of the movement.
What is Authentic Movement?
Authentic Movement is a self-directed movement practice that explores awareness, attention, and the experience of being seen. One person moves with eyes closed, following physical impulse rather than planned movement, while the other person takes the role of witness.
The witness offers quiet, attentive presence without directing or interpreting the movement. The practice supports reflection, empathy, and clearer awareness of self and others.
What is Cacao Circle?
A cacao circle is an ancient, heart-opening ritual originating from Maya and Aztec traditions, designed to foster self-love, emotional healing, and spiritual connection through the intentional consumption of raw cacao. A pure and ceremonial-grade cacao drink will be served free of charge. The ingredients are only cacao, water and a little bit of maple syrup.
Is it appropriate for children?
Movement and connection can be wonderful for children, however the event structures are geared mainly towards adults. There will be loud music so children must wear ear protection such as noise cancelling headphone. You will be asked to leave if the child/children are disturbing other participants.
What do I need to bring?
Comfortable clothing that you don’t mind sweating in and allows you a full range of motion. We dance bare-footed or clean athletic shoes are allowed if you have a medical reason. Bring a bottle of water and your curiosity. That’s all you need.
Do you offer support for people experiencing financial hardship?
Absolutely! You can request a "supported" or "no one turned away" ticket rate by contacting organiser directly.
Is the ticket refundable or transferable?
All ticket sales are final. No refunds will be issued under any circumstances. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your ticket to another individual with prior notice to the organiser.
